Locations & Beyond Summit 2010
More than 200 industry leaders gathered in San Francisco for the Locations & Beyond Summit (formerly the Location 2.0 Summit) on October 6, 2010. to discuss the transformative effects of connecting everyone, everywhere, everyplace in a location-aware world. Attendees explored the challenges and opportunities in a location-aware world and discussed how industry leaders can collaborate to create innovative new business models, develop complementary offerings, and find revenue from untapped sources.
People’s Choice Award Winners
This year’s event again featured the popular Fast-Pitch presentations – nine finalists chosen from dozens of applicants delivered brief presentations of location-aware connected solutions and applications. During the Summit, attendees voted via SMS for their favorite Fast-Pitch finalist in each category for “People’s Choice” Awards. The winners are as follows:
Most Innovative Connected Location Device and People’s Choice winner: GTX Corporation, for its GPS Smart Shoe product, developed to track Alzheimer’s patients.
Most Innovative Location Application: near2there, for its eponymous, free download that alerts users when they near places such as restaurants, museums, landmarks, or any other location they have designated as a place they wish to go.
Most Innovative Connected Location Everywhere Solution: Koozyt, for its Koozyt Augmented Reality Technology (KART), an augmented reality solution that makes it possible to detect image patterns to display and overlay virtual content and information.
Opening Keynote Address – Rob Carter, FedEx, Named one of Fast Company’s “100 Most Creative People in Business 2010″
Rob Carter is executive vice president of FedEx Information Services and chief information officer of FedEx Corporation. He is a member of the five-person Executive Committee, which plans and executes the corporation’s strategic business activities. Carter is responsible for setting technology direction, as well as the corporation’s key applications and technology infrastructure. Rob was recently honored by Fast Company for his role in the development of SenseAware, a first-of-its-kind information service that combines a GPS sensor device and a web-based collaboration platform.
In his keynote address, Rob Carter, executive vice president and chief information officer for FedEx, shared his insights about why location has always been an important aspect of adding critical context to information at FedEx as well as its customers. He also discussed FedEx’s SenseAware supply chain information platform that combines GPS-enabled location and complementary sensors with global connectivity and a web-based collaboration platform. Designed to provide information on demand, SenseAware enables Fedex customers to make real-time business decisions more easily.
